tripadvisorThe Kearney House had one of their special events on Thursday night with old fashioned games, independent tours of the house and watermelon and lemonade for refreshments to cool down. The whole property was in full bloom with the summer here and the grounds were really beautiful. All the windows were open letting in a cool breeze. It was nice to just sit back and relax on the lawn and listen to the musician play. The watermelon and lemonade hit the spot on a warm night.
MoreI visited the Kearny House historical home for an afternoon of entertainment after a long Thanksgiving weekend. The house was cosy with two fires going in the house’s historical fireplaces in the living room and dining room while they warmed apple cider over the fire. They had an entertainer playing songs and singing. I also was able to tour this historic home and see all the corners of this house from the 1700’s.The hot cider and the music were a nice way to just relax and take some time to appreciate this old home and traditions of the past. It will be closed until April.
MoreThe Kearny House is a historical home in the Alpine Boat Basin and part of the Palisades Park region. This home was once the home of the Kearny family and Mrs. Kearny used the home as a tavern and hotel to raise money for her family. I was visiting one night for a Punch & Pie event at the house which was a nice night of music and storytelling while eating the most delicious pie. The whole house was illuminated by candle light and a warm fire in the fireplace. It must have been interesting to live at that time. The house has no electricity so this is the way they lived back then. The house is rather small to tour. Just the two downstairs living room and dining room/kitchen and the two upstairs bedrooms with an attic storage area. Most of the house is not furnished that much. Still it is interesting to see how families lived before the Civil War and that evening gave me a glimpse. Also, if you are going to attend one of their evening events, PLEASE TAKE IT SLOW DOWN THE ROAD! The road leading to the basin is pitch black and their are no lights in the park so take it slow. If someone is following you, slow it down!!!
