On 5/2/2022 this park was renamed VIVAS PALM PARK in honor of Fort Myers pioneers Joseph and Christiana Vivas and family who deeded the property to the city in 1936 for a park. Inaugurated in 1957 this .50 acre park has 49 rare varieties of Palms.Coming soon this park with the expertise of the Naples Botanical Garden this park will be enhanced with new walk-way, new plants to accentuate the palms, lights. Also on this property Edison during his light bulb experimentation had gotten and used bamboo filament for his bulbs.

My husband and I took a long hike yesterday around Downtown and I was able to show him this park. It is tucked away in the Fort Myers Yacht Basin, across from the marina. He was impressed by many of the palms, as I am, especially the ones from India. Those palms are so huge you can’t possibly fit them into the frame of one shot! I was very sad to see the Teddy Bear Palm had died and was cut down. I hope the City can find the funding to replace it. I was impressed by the fact that on this visit, there was no litter. Last January, the park needed attention. I recommend a stop to sit on one of the benches and get out of the heat.

Hidden in Fort Myers' Downtown is the little known Park of Palms. In this park are many different types of palm trees each with a plaque on a stand with both the latin and common names. The paths through the park are winding with old-fashioned street lamps and benches. It's a hidden gem! Located across from the City of Fort Myers' Yacht Basin. Very peaceful.
