tripadvisorThe boardwalk was ok but after about 1/2 a mile the boardwalk ended and grass and wet sand was the walking surface. We did not see any alligators or other animals during the walk.
MoreBigger and nicer than the West Preserve. It's good to get out and walk in the sunshine. Paths are easy and there are even a couple picnic tables. The nearby traffic noise is not too bad, you can enjoy some relaxing time in a nature environ for a few.
MoreMy husband and I went here right away in the morning to hike. We actually intended to go to the West section, but once we were here, we decided to hike it. We intended to hike all the way down and along the river but there was flooding and we had to turn back. I suggest a good hiking shoe if you plan to go off the asphalt trail as the ground is uneven. Also, wool hiking socks if you are going off of the pavement as there are stinging insects along the grass trails. There was a range of terrain in this Preserve. Some of it was wide open near the Caloosahatchee, and some was more rain forest type with a lot of Saw Palmetto and Spanish Moss. There was a boardwalk loop that was absolutely magical and we spent a lot of time looking at and photographing native plants. We only saw birds and Green Anoles, nothing larger. You mainly go for the hike and the botany. I would definitely do the boardwalk area again. There weren't many people out when we were there, and they were mostly near the parking lot and picnic tables. Admission was free.
