A taste of history of a New England town.A small building stocked with information about Westport, a fascinating place with a history of being settled by artists, actors, (Betty Davis, Paul Newman, Joanne Woodward, etc.) and musicians. F.Scott Fitzgerald lived in Westport and scenes described in The Great Gatsby as though in NY, actually describe a portion of Westport. The people managing the museum are highly knowledgeable and friendly.

Westport is known as a small artsy community. One of the gems Westport has is the Westport Historical Society. Not only can you see what’s on exhibit you get a real feel of a friendly community from the people helping out at the WHS... good place to pick up a westport suviner from charming post cards to sweatshirts or a WESTPORT cap! Worth the 20 minute stop in... you can get a lot of information on the happenings around the area.Greg & Sarah Puhy

Recently I visited for the first time - for a poetry reading. I live in a nearby town, so it's not surprising I hadn't been here before. The Historical Society is in an old house with many antique furnishings and some lovely displays. There are several historic rooms; floors are, appropriately, not exactly level. One large room serves as an event room and is as charming as the rest. Parking is sufficient. It's located right at the end of one of the main shopping streets, which means it's central and convenient.

Add this to your places to visit! The collection of artifacts and the artistic collection is informative and enjoyable. Take your time and consider what our ancestors dealt with, especially in the area of culinary arts!
