tripadvisorWe just finished a 3 night stay at the Compass hotel in Anna Maria island. We were there with many families for a vow renewal and the stay was wonderful from start to finish. It was clean, staff was so friendly and accommodating and both of the restaurants/bars were excellent. The servers Jake and Mia were both great and the star of the weekend was the bartender Bridget who took such good care of our large group on multiple occasions. We highly recommend this hotel!
MoreWe stayed two nights. During the day after our first night we started itching from bug bites. We had not been anywhere outdoors making the room the most likely place to have gotten bitten. When we got back to the hotel for our last night we checked the beds. We found huge stains on the mattresses and box springs that had been covered up. We asked for a different room. When we checked that room the mattresses were also stained! At this point it’s almost 11 pm. The staff was friendly but couldn’t do anything more. We spoke to management the next morning and were told how thorough their cleaning process is. After Expedia contacted them they agreed to refund 1 of the 2 nights. If you choose to stay here beware. If the cleaning process is so thorough how did we end up with a ton of bug bites and two rooms that had filthy mattresses?
MoreI’d like to start with the staff; everyone was super friendly. But our room needed work. The bathroom floor had deep scratches and mold / mildew around the shower and one of the walls. A long crack in the ceiling. I called after check in because our sink was not draining. I had to call 2 more times the following day before the maintenance man came to unclog it. He was very nice and did unclog it. They are updating some of the rooms; unfortunately, we didn’t have one. If you visit the island to watch the sunset head back to the bar at the hotel. Bridget the bar tender made great drinks at the inside bar. In the morning you can see dolphins and manatees in the marina behind the hotel.
MoreWe had a fantastic stay at the Compass Hotel by Margaritaville!Location & Views:The position just off the key is a massive plus—you get to enjoy gorgeous Anna Maria Sound bay views without having to fight the heavy island traffic. Watching the marina activity from the property adds a fun, lively dynamic, and the sunsets here are absolutely incredible.Property & Amenities:The building itself is exceptionally clean, well-maintained, and modern. Everything feels fresh, updated, and relaxed in true Margaritaville style.Bottom Line: A scenic, stress-free spot with stunning waterfront views and zero traffic headaches. We will definitely be back!
MoreAfter staying at Compass Hotel by Margaritaville at least 10 times over the years, and recommending it to friends and bringing friends with us, I’m extremely disappointed to say that after this latest stay, we will not be returning. We checked in on 11th September for a seven-night stay and had booked a suite. We were allocated room 202. At first glance everything seemed fine, but once we had properly settled in, it became clear that the room had not been cleaned to the standard we had experienced on our previous visits. The floors were dirty and the general cleanliness of the room was poor.We then discovered that we had been placed on a pet-friendly floor. For seven nights we had to listen to dogs constantly barking, including dogs that appeared to have been left alone in rooms for hours at a time. On one occasion, the barking continued for over four hours. I raised this with the Front of House Manager, but was told there were no other rooms available to move us to, so we simply had to put up with it for the remainder of our holiday.Even more concerning was the security of our room. We returned from the pool to find our room door had been left open by housekeeping. We immediately reported this to reception and were told that housekeeping would be spoken to. Incredibly, this happened THREE times during our stay. We also noticed room 201 had been left open.Leaving a guest’s room unsecured, with their personal belongings inside, is a serious security issue. For it to happen once is unacceptable; for it to happen repeatedly after it had already been reported is extremely worrying. The pool area was also disappointing. The bottom of the pool appeared to have mould on it and we never once saw it being properly cleaned of debris during our seven-night stay. But perhaps the biggest disappointment was how different the whole atmosphere felt. Where has the lovely team gone who made this hotel such a great place to stay over the past few years? Many of the staff this time seemed miserable and uninterested, and the warmth and friendliness that kept us coming back simply wasn’t there. We have genuinely loved this hotel in the past. We wouldn’t have stayed at least 10 times or recommended it to friends otherwise. That’s what makes this experience so disappointing.Seven nights of barking dogs, a poorly cleaned suite, our room repeatedly being left unsecured by housekeeping, concerns over the cleanliness of the pool and a noticeable decline in customer service have unfortunately brought our loyalty to an end. After all our previous visits, I never thought I would be writing this, but we will not be returning.
