Across from the U.S. Post Office in Downtown Fort Myers is a fountain and sculptural installation known as the Florida Panther, by artist Don D. J. Wilkins. The installation, which is located on the median of Monroe Street, was dedicated on October 22, 1988. It is in honor of Florida's State Animal the panther. The installation is 50 feet long and is framed by opposing 8 foot-square basins that feature water bubblers and pools of cascading water. There is a reclining female panther watching a cub, a prowling male panther, and a frog all made of cold cast bronze. The installation is unexpected but a really nice touch to the historic downtown.
