We have driven over the Edison Bridge many times and both ways. The last time was yesterday. The bridge is kept clean and free of debris and is an excellent way to travel between Fort Myers and North Fort Myers/Cape Coral. We also can see both parts of the bridge from our condo lanai; at night, it has really pretty lighting. We see it every evening when watching the sun set, and then the bridge lights come on. The Edison Bridge, named for inventor Thomas Edison, is two parallel-section one-way bridges that come together as one near North Fort Myers. It carries traffic from U.S. Highway 41 Business across the Caloosahatchee. There is traffic on the bridges until late at night. The two one-way bridges were built in the 1990s and replaced a single two-way span. The original bridge that was also called the Edison Bridge was a part or the Tamiami Trail and was located where the current southern span is located.
