tripadvisorTom with Outback Guide Service provides an adventure that only someone who has grown up in the North Georgia mountains can give. He will customize a hike based on your level of comfort, time, and preferences. He has many options to choose from based on his depth of knowledge and experience from living in the area his entire life. We went for an easy-level hike to Dicks Creek falls, a multiple drop waterfall north of Dahlonega, GA. Tom shared a detailed history of the area explaining how it was settled long ago, leading up to it's current preserved status. He is also a professional photographer and can easily identify native plants and flowers as well as take a photo of your choosing. Our hike was not rushed and we enjoyed bringing our dog along too! Such an enriching experience! Highly recommend Outback Guide Service if you are looking for a once in a lifetime educational and refreshing outdoor activity.

MoreFamily and cousins did a Hike from Tremont Institute with Tom our Outback Guide which was the highlight of our stay in the Great Smoky Mountains. One waterfall after another on a trail that was well maintained, with pretty flat and even surfaces that allowed you to step down to the waterfalls and take awesome photography. Tom is also a top videographer with his camera, tripod and drone capabilities. He hikes at our pace and is very knowledgeable about the area. Highly recommend Tom for a memorable hiking experience.
MoreTom was our guide for 3 days of hiking around Dahlonega--we did parts of the AT, a waterfall hike and a hike up to Blood Mountain. He was patient and kind with our group of 4 women (novice and experienced alike) and added a lot of history and personal knowledge of the trails and mountains. He's also a professional-level photographer and took pics of us and the scenery. His wife came along for parts and we even joined them at a winery afterwards--such genuine, welcoming and nice people! He will customize hikes and length of days, difficulty etc. It wouldn't have been as easy or as nice to do without him as our guide--it's the way to go when traveling to a new location you don't know very well.
MoreWe had a wonderful hike with Tom up to the top of Wildcat Mountain. It was a beautiful day. Tom is a very experienced guide, and he knows these mountains going all the way back to his childhood. As we climbed, and even from the parking area when we arrived, he pointed out the various mountains, gaps, valleys, historical structures, and other topographical features of the area. He also told great stories - some about his own experiences and some about he explorers of the 18th and 19th centuries. Fascinating! Tom is also one of the nicest, most patient, and accommodating people you could ever meet. He is constantly trying to improve his craft and his inventory of hikes, as he took photos and flew his drone while we were on the hike. I definitely encourage anyone who wants to hike and explore the North Georgia mountains as an insider to take advantage of Tom's expertise and patient guidance. It is so much more than just hiking the trails by yourself!
