tripadvisorThe guide was great. However, we tried to do the green trail (beginner) in a 4 wheel truck because we were told that a stock 4 wheel drive vehicle was fine. We felt like the road was way too rough. We blew out a tire. We just feel like the employees should make more of an effort to make sure people have the right vehicle. The scenery was cool though.
MoreMy wife and I attended the Stage 5 Off Road Training class at Merus Adventure Park. It was a great two day class. The instructors (Jonathan and Jeremy) did and excellent job. My wife was very apprehensive about going, but by the end of the training she was having a blast. We both learned a lot and the Merus Adventure staff were so friendly and helpful. Their Park is a work in progress with many exciting upgrades being installed. I highly recommend Merus Adventure Park.
MoreGoogled to camp in the Palo Duro Canyon. Not even close. Can barely see any canyon from rv spots in a pasture. Covered wagon roads to get there. Drove 5 hours and told them it was not acceptable and asked for refund. They refused. Don't bother to book anything with these folks...no ethics.
MoreWe chose Merus Adventure Park just 15 miles south of Claude Texas for a spring Overlanding Adventure in our Jeeps. While my friends and I are experienced off-roaders, this was my first overlanding trip (Rocklanding) and our first trip to Merus. We selected this offroad park after learning about the terrain features and opportunities to explore Palo Duro Canyon from YouTubers Lite Brite and Trail Recon. We booked ahead and Molly at Merus helped us plan an adventure that would allow us to see all the varied terrain, animals, petrified wood and canyon crawling we could ask for. All while experiencing three different campsite locations on our four day trip. Before arriving we stopped in Claude at the Red Roof Grille.check out their ratings - it was arguably the best burger I’ve ever had. We then went to the park, checked in and aired down. You will need a high clearance 4x4 and it has to be full size as no ATVs or SxS are allowed. For a very reasonable fee per vehicle, Molly set us up with three campsites. One was at the top of the canyon so we could expire fun trails like Sidewinder. When we woke up we descended into the canyon down a steep incline (felt vertical, but just do what the sign says, low gear, brakes and breathe). Our two camp sites at the bottom were convenient to explore the south and north trails like Middle Earth and Sagissor. We set up camp to lighten our Jeeps then headed off to conquer terrain. The park is well marked and the three ratings mean what they say. There are cutouts for the advanced and extreme trails and your vehicle capabilities need to match the rating. You will need to bring everything you need for camping here as sites are primitive. You must have a fire extinguisher and GMRS Radio and must call on Channel 6 before the descent or climb at the “drop in” to ensure clearance. When we went there were no open fires allowed so bring propane. Having extra fuel allowed us to better enjoy without needing to leave to refuel. Molly did a fantastic job of setting up this wonderful adventure and we all look forward to returning soon!
MoreAlthough I had never heard of the Palo Duro Canyon before coming to Merus Adventure Park, I will never forget the beauty and awesome landscape of this area. It is a mixture of the Grand Canyon and Sedona with its colors and terrain. Merus Adventure Park is a treasure to behold. We went with 4 wheeling in our new Rubicon on our minds and were blown away by the well-thought-out layout of the trails to experience the canyon. They have labeled the trails from beginner (green), intermediate (blue) to expert (black diamond) to allow you to stay in your comfort zone. A lot to see and a lot to do in this canyon not to mention some all-around get after it off-roading fun. We had the park to ourselves although this did bother me because all of you are missing out on some awesome wheeling.
