Beside the grand City Hall a fine memorial honours those many lost in wars, estimated at 1.5 million Americans. A number of segments comprise the memorial. Five large granite panels detail five wars, from WWI to post 9/11 2001. Another aspect is a dedication plaque placed above seals of six categories of US armed and protection forces. A sculpture of army boots on a plinth with a rifle in between that is crowned with a helmet is a further powerful tribute.
