First of all, the directions on where to meet the shuttle at Sky Harbor airport were vague. Once we got on a shuttle, it dropped us off in the wrong area and we had to walk around with our luggage to find our car. Got to the car and it was full of trash and dog hair. The day we picked it up it was raining and the windshield wiper blades were bad and it was hazardous driving the car. After a few miles a low tire warning came on so we had to have the tires checked. We traded several emails with the company about all of it and all they said was that there is a trash can at the facility (to unload the trash in the car) and that they would refund our money if we would take the time to get the wipers replaced. In other words, do their maintenance for them. I would NEVER rent a car from these crooks again.

In September 2026 we rented a car on Expedia for pickup at Phoenix airport (PHX). The rental company’s name was listed as “Economy Rent a Car.” (I later found out that they also rent under the names “Carzi” and “Elizabeth Ryan Management Company,” no doubt in an effort to deceive the public about their many horrible reviews). In sum, one must say that Carzi is a scamming fraud. I reported all the details to Expedia and they told me to get lost and would not remove Carzi from their site. The rental experience was a disaster from start to finish; here are just a few of the issues:1) They do not have a facility at PHX or at the off-site car-rental center. In fact, they do not have a counter anywhere. There are no humans. They communicate via text ONLY and refused to speak by phone. They leave the cars in a commercial parking lot that took about 45 minutes to get to from the airport. The instructions were very vague and it took a lot of sleuthing to find that lot. We found ourselves in the company of other renters who were having the same extremely frustrating experience.2) The car was a mess, both cosmetically and mechanically. It was not safe to drive and should never have been rented. I reported the issues to Carzi and they merely said I should get a tow truck to take the car back to PHX (I was at the Grand Canyon, some 3+ hours away) AT MY OWN EXPENSE! And then I would have to find a way to get my family back to PHX. Here is what I reported to them via text:“The car has some bad vibrations. It shakes, and there are numerous rattles. Alignment seems to be bad.The brakes are shot. They need serious attention. The car is not safe to drive. The tire pressure warning light was on when we picked up the car, and we had to spend time and money to have the tires filled. There are no caps on the tire valve stems. The warning light came on repeatedly; the tires are not retaining air pressure and we’ve had to add air multiple times. There are many cosmetic problems. The exterior body has many scratches, dents, and dings. The windshield also has dings. The car was dirty, and the windshield was so dirty on the inside that we couldn't see out during bright sunlight.”3) As the car was not safe to drive, we did return it as soon as practical, which was a day before the due date. They made no adjustment in the rental cost.Needless to say, this was an utterly unacceptable experience. And if you read other reviews of Carzi / Economy / Elizabeth Ryan, you’ll see that my experience is the rule, not the exception. Many reviewers call Carzi a scam; I cannot disagree. I cannot believe that Expedia offers the services of such a horrible company.

The rental car location was difficult to find. They then made some last minute switches and demanded an insurance add on even though my credit card company covers it. Additional charges for gas and now one month later I get a notice saying there was a speeding violation reported. The ticket was a camera that I never saw and on the ticket it says no charges for this violation but Carzi is trying to charge me an admin fee of $85 for nothing. Sounds like a scam! Will never rent with them again

Worst car rental experience I've had in 38 years of business and personal travel!! They start by sending you an anonymous text to click on a link and add all your personal and financial info. Not going to happen! They are not located at the car rental area with all the other reputable companies. We finally get all of our golf bags, checked bags and carry on bags to their address in 104 degree Phoenix heat and it is a parking garage with not 1 sign with their name on it anywhere! Tried to contact them by the number they provided and no one would answer. Found someone associated with the parking garage and they pointed us to a waiting area in the back of the garage. So we carry all of our bags back there. Carzi would only respond by text and would only accept your personal and credit card information that way, there is no one on site to help. Granted, I prepaid for everything including extra insurance through Expedia. They would not accept the Expedia Insurance or my State Farm insurance and forced me to pay for their insurance or I could not get the car. After finally getting through all that hassle, they text me how to find them in the parking garage!! GRRRRR!!! Get to the car and there are no keys.....wait some more time and they send another text that the keys are in a lock box in the console.

This company is a scam. Do not do business with this company. We needed assistance with the vehicle, as it would not start, and the number listed was answered by a man whose voice was garbled, with dogs and screaming kids in the background. Someone called us back from the same number a few times and we tried to ask if he was calling from Carzi, then he would hang up. We quit answering, so he then left a profane and inappropriate message. There is no onsite human assistance, it is run out of a parking garage on the west side of Phoenix. The personnel at the garage are not affiliated with Carzi, so they are not able to help. We booked through Priceline, so we thought it was a ligitimate company, but they should not be doing business with this scam company. Will never book with them again.
