The afternoon we were there was about perfect, With the sun well past peak (5 PM in August), the colors were gorgeous. The blue sky, black lava rock, yellow bushes and a few splashed of color from flower made for some excellent pictures. The pictures on this page are not doing it any justice. The trail is paved, somewhat hilly, but not difficult. There are info boards along the way that explains what you are looking at. We did a good bit of the trail, but not the whole thing as it was getting a bit late and we had a little ways to go yet to our overnight stop. This ended up being one of the more memorable stops we made on a 16 day trip full of memorable stops. I highly recommend (along with the Big Obsidian Flow Trail).

Really cool paved trail through the lava rocks that is easy for little kids and stollers. You can also hike up the volcano. Great for families!

Trail of the Molten Land #3922 is a 1 mile loop trail located at the Lava Lands Visitor Center. The trail is directly behind the Visitor Center and features a great lava flow, views of Lava Butte, the Lava Ness Monster, and beautiful wild flowers. It is a macadam paved trail and is good for all skill levels. There is an elevation gain which gives you a panoramic view of the level field surrounded by pine forests
