tripadvisorI book talent for performances at an over-55 community in San Diego County. This was the most professional and entertaining group we have ever had. Singer and emcee Ed introduced each song and brought the audience in when he introduced members of the band. TheMSO was just an ideal vendor. People are still talking about this delightful event. They made our patrons happy and made the organizers look good. What more could you ask? We will bring them back... by popular demand!
MoreThis is wonderful for dancing or just listening.A great way to spend some time and hear some absolutely great music.
MoreA Thursday evening at Lucky Star, beginning with a good Chinese dinner and followed by the Big Band music of the Moonlight Serenade Orchestra, is most enjoyable. Ballroom and Latin dancers will have an even better time, as Lucky Star has a dance floor, too. With or without the dancing, an evening with MSO is highly recommended.
MoreNot a great restaurant, so eat somewhere else before going. But a great band and opportunity to dance to swing and Big Band music. They also play a scattering of modern songs arranged in a Big Band style. Even a rock-and-roll song once in a while. But predominantly Swing Era music and old standards. You have to pay $7 per person to get in when the band is there (Thursday evenings) and have to buy a minimum of 1 drink per person. They charge you at least $5 for the first drink, even if it's lower than that on the menu. Then the second drink is whatever the price is on the menu. So the minimum you will spend is $12 per person, not including food. And the band has a tip jar you may want to put some cash into as well. The food, in my experience, is average Chinese food, nothing special. In fact I was disappointed in a couple of dishes I ordered. So I would not recommend eating here. If you bring your own bottle of wine, there is a $10 fee. The band is well worth all this rigamarole and they are top-notch musicians and there are always a couple of singers. They play from 7 to 8:15 and take a short break while the recorded Electric Slide is played, then play from 8:30 to 9:30. So dress up a little, put on your dancing shoes and have a good time to authentic Swing Era and Big Band era songs.
MoreIf you're a fan of Big Band music, and/or if you love to dance, The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra at the Lucky Star Restaurant every Thursday night is the place to be! They play all the wonderful classic tunes, together with more contemporary Latin and popular dance music. It's rare to be able to dance to a Big Band that really has that swing, and they do! The dance floor is large and frequently full. Whether you're a beginner or experienced dancer, the atmosphere is very welcoming. We go early and have Chinese food for dinner before the band starts, but the main attraction for us is the music.
