tripadvisorThe town is old being stuck in old ways. There’s absolutely no parking. The beaches are murky. Very old places to shop. The movie theater broke down while we were there. The alligator farm stinks. Any day a flood is going to come take it out.
MoreWe visited St. Augustine in December specifically for the holiday lights, and it was very disappointing. The area is much smaller than expected, with very few lights and limited decorations overall. There wasn’t much to do, and the experience felt underwhelming given the hype. We would not recommend making the trip for the lights.
MoreWe had an amazing time. The city is so walkable and friendly. There is a lot to do and you can spend a lot of money so be careful
MoreDON'T BOTHER GOING TO ST. AUGUSTINE AT CHRISTMAS. This was our 3'rd trip to St. Augustine but first time at Christmas. We bought trolley tickets to see the Christmas lights on Christmas night, but after an hour of driving around in 3 mph traffic we still couldn't find any open parking. The city closed the city parking deck even though the city's website says it's open 24/7/365. Didn't see one police officer directing traffic, and not one sign telling people where to park. Absolute mess, worse than Atlanta rush hour traffic. Missed our reservation for the trolley and after an hour of driving around we still couldn't find parking. As a 26 year law enforcement veteran in a large agency with a major sports stadium, I think the city needs to fire it's police chief and Transportation Director. Get your act together St. Augustine, you don't deserve even 1 star after the debacle we saw tonight. I've been to a lot of Christmas light displays in tourist towns over the last 30 years and have never seen such a mess. The city obviously had no traffic plan and doesn't care.
MoreHoly crap..no. ALL the websites and Google info is highly misleading...the place has no old feel..it's a mini Orlando with a sneeze of charm..you spend most of your time in traffic..like chaotic dead stop traffic and dodging hoards of drunks, pot smokers and college ppl all over the street and side walks. Everything has a entry fee..the museums are either a 20 min deal or they are like poorly done, Night of lights is NOT what it seems it's like 2 pieces of road with some buildings in all white lights and one middle area..it's basic..so misleading the photos..this place just stinks. The only decent parts was walking colonial quarter, the fort and the torture museum. Ghost tour is ok but we didn't realize you don't see the jail or wax museum in its entirety. St Francis Inn is a nice quaint christmas like place to stay with loads of perks, along with Harbor 26. If I had to redo..I think I just would of stayed local..this was a Orlando mess tho, and very big city like. Maybe avoid December I duno.
