This rail trail is extremely well done. The trail is wide and paved, and not only is the pavement well maintained, both sides of the trail are well groomed. There are some at grade intersections with low traffic roads. Lots of parking areas and bathrooms along the way. And bridges to cross streams and roads. And it connects directly to the Walkway Over the Hudson. Lots of people use the trail. It didn't seem congested, but it did feel safe.

The bicycle trail is very nice and cleanthat it is well maintained! We enjoyed the ride thru and very interesting sights along the long trail. We had a picnic at some point, and pleasant sights. We were glad that they provided enough bathrooms along the trail! Wish it was longer trail!

13 mile one way asphalt rail trail that goes through wooded areas, near residential before ending at the Walkway over the Hudson pedestrian bridge, the tallest pedestrian bridge in the US. Connects to trails to the south by Hopewell Junction as well as trails that take you to Ulster County. Has benches, bridges over creeks and long stretches of tree lined paths

Like the adjoining Hudson Valley Rail, the Dutchess Rail Trail is a wide, paved, flat & nearly-straight biking/walking/running path that extends 13 miles from the Walkway Over The Hudson (Poughkeepsie side), southeast to Hopewell Depot, just south of East Fishkill. It is a part of the much more extensive Empire State Trail. I biked it in the pouring rain, so I am not a good judge of how enjoyable it may, or may not be. On the northern section, where I rode (8 of the 13 miles), it is not particularly charming or pretty, which is not what I had hoped for, but instead, there are car salvage & repair yards & small manufacturing businesses on either side. There are a good number of trailheads where parking is available. some with bathroom facilities, along the route. If you are looking for a fairly easy & straight ride, fairly shaded (especially helpful when you are riding in a downpour), this Rail Trail is for you.
