Took a solo trip for the weekend to visit a friend in the Bay Area. Check-in was great. Used my World of Hyatt membership to get a deal on a room. The staff member checking me in was super friendly and told me about my benefits, such as free parking and member discounts. When I was checking out, a different staff member gave me different information and was charging me for things that should have been waived. When I brought this up to management in an email, they said it was the mistake of a new employee who was training and gave me wrong information. I can understand that, but rather than take on the mistake, they still billed me. This threw me for what was initially a great stay. I don't know if it is just the hotel staff during check-out or a policy from Hyatt, but usually if a mistake is made on the part of the hotel, they resolve it so you'd be looking forward to coming back rather than having you take on the mistake and expect that it was a satisfying stay.

I live across the bay in San Francisco and felt that I needed to explore Oakland. I chose the Kissel as I am a loyal Hyatt customer and the location near Lake Merritt seemed ideal. The property is fairly new and seemed updated and fresh. It’s only a 10 minute walk from the 19th St BART station and at least during daylight hours it seemed perfectly safe to walk this Main Street. Bed was comfortable and I really liked the plush pillows. Also nice scented amenities in the bathroom.. I did not dine at the hotel as there are many restaurants close by. I did have a nightcap at the bar and the bartender was welcoming and friendly. Overall I recommend this hotel to anyone.

Vibe and common spaces were great. Room TV service was hard to connect to reliably. Seemed like the TV had trouble consistently connecting to the internet, which made it impossible to watch some of the time. The mattress and pillows were extremely uncomfortable, which is a big disappointment at this price point. Staff were nice and hotel was clean. My husband has a gluten allergy and the restaurant had an item marked gluten free that actually contained a lot of wheat. Despite his confirming when ordering that the meal would be okay for him, he was served a meal with gluten, which ruined the last day of our trip due to him feeling unwell.

Great location, modern vibe hotel. Rooms were clean and comfortable beds. Our room was quiet and liked the convenience of the restaurant and bar.

Excellent rooms and facilities. Very comfortable stay with solid service. The Otto restaurant was solid but was missing quite a few items on their menu in terms of drinks and food but otherwise the food was above average. Staff were helpful and the snack and drink shop was well stocked. Beds were comfortable and shower was excellent. Location was also in a great area in Oakland with lots of food and drink options close by as well as being close walk to my office. Definitely would stay here again.
