MoreAlways attractive, Donovan Park is especially beautiful in summer. Its large trees, vast lawns, lovely ponds and picnic grounds, playgrounds for kids and abstract sculptures look more beautiful and even surreal. The trail -- the part of Rock Island Greenway in Peoria -- that runs through the northern part of the park, is full of action: walkers, joggers, runners, bikers and pets -- all are enjoying the warm, sunny days, and pretty flowers in the park seem to be happily blooming forever. The new thing I found in the park was a modern sculpture 'Sweet Like Lemonade' by artist Taylor Fawcett; the sculpture is also placed in the northern part of the park, in a wide open area it stands out at a distance. When you come closer -- you read the plaque, you see the sculpture close up, and then you might think of your own understanding and interpretation of the stunning artwork. Those beautiful, long days of summer in Donovan Park ...
MoreAfter the golf course closed at this location in 2014, it subsequently became Donovan Park -- vast, multi-use, beautiful and very tranquil. The park is great for walking on the trails, fishing in the ponds, having picnics, walking dogs. There's a nice restaurant in the park; during warm weather seasons, an interesting place in the park to visit could also be Northmoor Observatory. In the snowy, winter months, one can see amateur skiers in the park, racing on snow tracks. The park is very picturesque, its forests and hills, open grass spaces and small ponds are stunningly attractive. For the lovers of contemporary abstract art, on the park grounds there are sculptures by the talented local artists. I also have the impression, that the park is very well maintained, without losing its non-commercial, natural, very peaceful looks.A large parking space is available onsite, the location of Donovan Park is quite central -- off Knoxville Avenue, across from the Junction City Shopping Center.I visited Donovan Park many times, I always enjoy it, and I always look forward to coming back!
