This is a really cool place located in a gorgeous old home/mansion. Large rooms, impressive common areas, and super friendly staff. I also really enjoyed being a bit away from the downtown core; the house is located near a bike/walking trail that runs along the river, and is also in/near an attractive walkable neighborhood.

This is a beautiful property located on Jefferson Avenue in Detroit in Indian Village across the street from Detroit's Gold Coast. The property has been painstakingly remodeled and the rooms are well-appointed. With that said, it is rough around the edges. Key Issues: 1) The driveway and sidewalks were icy and were only partially shoveled. 2) Almost instantly upon arrival the owner began complaining that we booked our stay via Expedia and not directly with the Inn (We would not have known about this place had we not found it on Expedia). 3) The room was uncomfortably cold and only had adequate heat when the gas fireplace was running. 4) After our stay, an unexplained additional charge appeared from the Inn, in addition to the original charge from Expedia.

Our stay at the Frederic Stearns House was fantastic. The rooms are well appointed and true to the photos on the website. The house was decorated beautifully for the holidays. We rented all but one room for the weekend of my daughter's wedding. It was the perfect place for our extended family to gather together. There was plenty of room for 14 of us to eat breakfast together as well as to socialize in the pub or the living/parlour room. The Frederick Stearns House is a real gem that has been beautifully renovated and will provide a fantastic setting for a family get together or a special night away. There's plenty of space and good wifi to work if needed. The Frederick Stearns House is an easy and quick drive into the City and is the perfect place to stay while exploring the many area museums, athletic events, college visits, or just a relaxing vacation. The Frederick Stearns House is even better in person than in the photos---certainly a 5 star experience!!

Arriving on a cold, snowy night after a lengthy journey to just the loveliest hostess, beautiful room, comfortable bed, and a stunning tile fireplace warming the room made a hard night, a very happy and memorable one. This couple clearly cares for this treasure of a property and the proprietor went out of her way to make sure I was cared for too! I would stay again in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone who loves historic, beautiful, properties and has a night or more in Detroit.

Our family gathered for a wedding held in Grosse Pointe. This location was ideal for the wedding and for exploring various Detroit attractions. We had the house to ourselves, having reserved most of the rooms, which was wonderful. Our host, Rachel, made us feel at home and we enjoyed her warm hospitality and delicious breakfasts. The house is a gem and has been meticulously renovated to modern standards and decorated to retain its authentic old world charm. The experience was so much more than enjoying a beautiful room, it was the chance to enjoy the entire mansion and get a feel for what it must have been like to live in such a beautiful home.We enjoyed our stay very much!Ed & Scott
