Florida Power & Light Electric Utility

Gulf Power Company is an investor-owned electric utility and a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Southern Company. Its service territory spans the area from the Alabama border on the west to the Apalachicola River on the east; and from the Alabama border on the north to the Gulf of Mexico on the south. It provides electric service to more than 390,000 retail customers directly and another 14,000 customers through the wholesale delivery of electricity to one investor-owned electric utility and one municipality. In total, GPC serves customers in 71 towns and communities in the southeast United States. Gulf Power Company was organized as a Southeastern subsidiary in 1926 and became an actual operating public utility as it acquired the Chipley Light and Power Company. GPC is headquartered in Pensacola, Fla., and operates three wholly-owned generating plants and a co-generation facility in northwest Florida. It also owns a percentage interest in two other facilities located in Mississippi and Georgia.
