There are a handful of monuments around the Historic Downtown of Georgetown including this statue of a middle-aged Dan Moody (1893-1966) at the SE corner of the main square near the County Courthouse. This is the work of Lucas Adams (2016) and depicts a middle-aged Moody in vest, holding a law book in his left hand and his hat in his right. The statue refers to Moody as the notable attorney who took on and convicted local Ku Klux Klan members in the famous trials here in Georgetown in the early 1920s. The trails were considered the first successful prosecution of the United States against the Klan. Moody would go on to serve as Texas Attorney General and the 30th State Governor as well.
