This was my 7th solo trip with Tauck since February 2024 plus I have 2 more scheduled. Obviously my experiences have been stellar, 2 domestic and 5 international - all land tours. I chose the shorter South African tour as 20 years ago we visited all over the country and the Tauck tour hit the highlights of Cape Town, Kruger adjacent and Victoria Falls. The hotels were great, food excellent and allergies catered to, fabulous sights but a real highlight was tour director Chantel. A model of perfection. Plus the local guides in Cape Town and Kruger were outstanding. Victoria Falls guide was subpar. After having traveled extensively to over 80 countries it has been a real pleasure to be in the Tauck bubble where everything is taken care of no matter what. As a solo traveler they have gone out of their way to make sure I am included with others bearing in mind most travelers are couples.

I had high expectations for my Tauck New Zealand tour because of the company’s reputation. While the logistics, accommodations, and organization were good, I was disappointed with the tour director. I was hoping for much more information about New Zealand’s history, culture, and the significance of the places we visited. The guide focused primarily on moving the group from place to place rather than providing commentary I expect from a premium tour company. The scenery was nice, but the educational component fell short of my expectations. Normally I think some bus drivers we had for just the day would have given more commentary but the microphone in the bus wasn’t working. Some meals were just ok but that may just be that the food in New Zealand isn’t stellar. When I go on trips I go to learn about a culture. On a train ride along the coast I moved closer to another tour group to listen to their guide talk about what we were seeing. Our guide sat alone and didn’t interact. The last hotel in queenstown didn’t have our room ready for 45 minutes. For how expensive the tour is that seemed unacceptable to me. We checked in around 330 it wasnt that we got there super early.

I recently completed Tauck’s eight-day Nova Scotia tour, and unfortunately it did not meet the expectations created by the company’s advertising.My biggest criticism is that the marketing does not accurately reflect the experience. The website presents this as a premium, first-class tour, but that was not my experience.The motorcoach was an ordinary tour bus—the same type commonly used on much less expensive tours. Since we spent many hours on the bus, comfortable seating was important, and I found it lacking. That affected my enjoyment of the entire trip.The included meals were another disappointment. Healthy options were limited, and I rarely finished a meal. Looking around the dining room, I noticed many other guests also left much of their food uneaten.The sightseeing itself was underwhelming. Much of the itinerary consisted of well-known tourist stops that could easily be visited independently. I expected more unique experiences and behind-the-scenes access—things that would justify choosing an organized premium tour.The accommodations were acceptable, and they may well represent some of the better options available in Nova Scotia. However, they still did not match the first-class image that Tauck’s advertising creates.My final disappointment involved the airport transfer. My flight was at 4:50 p.m., yet the group was dropped off at the airport around 10:00 a.m. While Tauck advertises that airport transfers are included, requiring guests to spend nearly seven hours waiting at the airport is, in my opinion, an unreasonable interpretation of that promise.Overall, my concern is less about any single issue than about the gap between the marketing and the actual experience. If the tour were advertised honestly as a good-quality, standard coach tour, my expectations would have been different. Instead, I felt the company oversold the experience, and that lack of transparency left me disappointed. Ethics is missing at Tauck.

I went on a tour of Yellowstone and the Tetons. Scenery did not disappoint but the rest of the tour did, it was a complete let down. The hotels were second rate, no air conditioning, no security safes, were just about clean enough. The worst bit is the food, inedible steaks, instant mashed potato, everything fried to death, the packed lunches were all white bread- usually left over hot dog baps and processed meat and cheese, fried snacks and a sugary drink, a slice of tomato and a tiny bit of lettuce, no fresh fruit, just a cookie sometimes. It is the only holiday I have gone on and lost weight. Sightseeing is very tame ( have been to Kenya which was much more fun and enjoyable), bears were visible with binoculars and “somewhere up there are wolves”, plenty of bison which was also on the menu. Some of the natural wonders are much better in other parts of the world I have visited. An expensive tour which Icould. It recommend to anyone.

Tauck doesn't just run tours; they architect experiences. There is Tauck, and then there is everything else.About This TripThis is our third Tauck tour, and our second river cruise with them. We sailed the Danube on the Christmas Markets itinerary last December and returned without hesitation for the Seine. We arrived several days early to explore Paris independently, taking in private tours, the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre, and rented a boat and captain for a romantic champagne cruise under the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower while staying at the Mandarin Oriental Lutetia in the 6th arrondissement before boarding the MS Sapphire on June 2nd. The ship carried 78 guests; the maximum capacity is 98. That smaller number matters more than you might think.Day by Day HighlightsDay 1. Boarding in Paris.Boarding day was seamless from start to finish. Hot towels and a welcome cocktail greeted us as we stepped aboard. Registration was immediate, and our bags were already in the cabin. The cabin had a king bed, a sitting area, sliding glass doors to the river, a walk-in closet, and a double vanity bathroom, exactly what we requested. A French singer with one of the most extraordinary voices we've ever heard opened the entertainment that night.Day 2. Parisian Landmarks, the Marais & the Louvre.We chose the Marais walking tour, and our guide was exceptional. Tauck provided lunch money so everyone could find their own bistro and experience Paris independently. The afternoon brought a guided Louvre visit. The ship repositioned downstream to meet us, and that logistical choreography never stops impressing.Day 3. Giverny, Monet's GardensOn a Tauck Exclusive early opening visit, we had Monet's gardens entirely to ourselves before the public arrived. No strangers in our photographs, and we were the first people through his house. Walking those paths, you feel how he saw the world. One of the finest mornings of the trip.Day 4. Rouen & La Couronne.The guided walk included the Gothic Cathedral Notre-Dame and the Place du Vieux Marché. We found La Couronne, the oldest restaurant in France, where Julia Child first discovered French cuisine. Six courses, champagne, a soufflé, and three hours at the table made for one of the best meals of our lives.Day 5. Mémorial de Caen, D-Day AnniversaryWe visited on the actual 82nd anniversary of D-Day. The exhibits are unflinching, covering the destruction of Jewish communities across Europe, the cost of occupation, and the liberation by Allied forces. The afternoon brought free time in Honfleur. Back on board, a 90 minute guest historian lecture perfectly prepared us for the next morning.Day 6. The Beaches of Normandy, the Most Moving Day.The day after the D-Day anniversary we visited Omaha Beach, the Normandy American Cemetery, had lunch in Normandy, and finished at Pointe du Hoc. The Cemetery, with 9,388 white crosses and Stars of David on 172.5 acres given permanently to the United States by France, silences you completely. Our French guides brought something no guidebook can: personal perspective. This was the most emotionally moving day of our lives as travelers. Freedom is never free.Day 7. Caudebec & Jumièges Abbey.A deliberately gentler day after Normandy. Caudebec en Caux is a quaint Norman town, and its Collegiate Church of Our Lady is stunning fifteenth century Flamboyant Gothic. Jumièges Abbey is exactly what Victor Hugo called it: the most beautiful ruin in France. The evening brought our gala dinner at Château du Taillis, a seventeenth century private estate. There was lobster ravioli in a Sauternes cream and five courses total. A wheelbarrow for the trip back to the bus would have been appreciated, but was not provided.Day 8. Château Gaillard, the Cider Farm & Can Can.We woke to Château Gaillard sitting on the cliff above Les Andelys, built in 1198 by Richard the Lionheart in a single year. Then came an exclusive visit to an organic Normandy cider farm, with multiple ciders, aged Calvados, and local cheeses and mustards to taste. There was gelato on deck in the afternoon. The evening's Can Can performance was professional and entertaining, and the singers had voices that stopped the room cold.Day 9. Marie Antoinette's Queen's Hamlet & Behind the Scenes. For those of us who had already seen Versailles, Tauck arranged an exclusive morning visit to Marie Antoinette's Queen's Hamlet with access to the interior rooms, which is extraordinarily rare. After lunch came behind the scenes tours of the wheelhouse, where we got to sit in the captain's chair, and the galley. Karaoke night closed the evening, and our entertainer finished by playing our wedding song, Die With a Smile. Some moments you don't plan for.Day 10. Au Revoir. Disembarkation was complete by 9:00 AM, handled with the same seamless efficiency that defined every day of the trip. Sue and I boarded knowing only each other. We left with email addresses, phone numbers, and genuine new Facebook friendships. This is the third time this has happened on a Tauck tour, and it is clearly not a coincidence.What Sets Tauck Apart Exclusive Access. Giverny before opening, the Queen's Hamlet interior rooms, a private château dinner, and an exclusive cider farm visit are simply not things you can arrange independently.The Guides. Karmen Liovic, Stefana Chivolu, and Barbara Sembinelli were all exceptional. They were knowledgeable and personable, and they shared a personal perspective that transformed each site visit into a genuine encounter with history.The Onboard Team. Cruise Director Lindsey Burgess ran everything with warmth and precision. Bar Manager Alex and his team, Anna Maria, Pedro, and Anton, knew your drink after the first day. Entertainer Rui Costa was outstanding throughout.The Food. Every meal, from daily breakfast through the Chef's Signature Dinner and the Château gala, was excellent.The Pacing. Tauck understands that a day like Normandy needs to be followed by something gentler, and the itinerary breathes because of it.The Community of the boat. With 78 guests, thoughtfully curated excursions, and communal dining, the conditions are ideal for genuine human connection. We left with real friendships.The Bottom Line We have now taken three Tauck tours, and the pattern is consistent. There is exceptional access, exceptional guides, exceptional staff, and the kind of fellow travelers who become friends by the end of the first week. The Rendezvous on the Seine is a particularly rich itinerary, moving through Paris, Giverny, Normandy, Rouen, Château Gaillard, and Versailles, covering some of the most significant history in the Western world without ever feeling rushed or superficial. The D-Day experience alone justifies the trip.Tauck does not simply move you through a checklist of destinations. They architect an experience built from the pacing, the access, the guides, the staff, the food, and the moments between the moments. The question at the end of a Tauck tour is never whether it was worth it. It is only which one is next. We came aboard as strangers. We left as friends. À bientôt, MS Sapphire.
