Don't be fooled by the fancy Ascend Hotel Collection branding by Choice Hotels. La Casa Modesto is on par with their Quality Inn brand; which is to say, it's on the low end of the quality scale. The King Bed room I was given, had extremely poor lighting (one dim lamp), no hangers, and a stale smell. The hotel itself is poorly designed, resembling a building that was once a small town convention center.Lastly, the business practices of this hotel leaves much to be desired charging a $100 deposit which, unlike other hotel deposits, actually gets charged to your credit card, which then takes 10 days to clear. Shame on Choice Hotels for its equivalent of putting lipstick on a pig.

We usually enjoy ‘Ascend’ hotels. This place does not deserve that name. Nothing special and too close to major roadway. Old facility with a few recent upgrades …but the old shows. Check-in is ugly and cramped…reminded us of a military dormitory. Room was poorly lit and dark… tub needed grout badly…beds were just OK. Breakfast was highly avoidable… plastic pre made disks of egg called ‘omlettes’. Staff ‘Sim’ were nice folks but overworked. It was also a long way off our route we only did for the Ascend name,.,, never again
