Orange County Zoo is a tremendously family-friendly attraction located in Irvine Regional Park. Prominent for boasting an impressive selection of animals, the zoo has a majority hailing from the southwestern United States. Here, visitors can marvel at the black bears, be awed by the turkey vultures, and be able to interact with the barnyard animals, including sheep and domestic goats. The zoo concept originated in 1905 when Red Foxes were added to Irvine Park. Then, by 1920, an animal collection started, steadily expanding until the official opening of the modern zoo in 1985. Thus, visit this attraction to learn more about the fascinating creatures in a fun-filled environment.

tripadvisorGreat little zoo with lots of local animals and reptiles. The guides and employees were very helpful. Mountain lion exhibit is very well done, as are others. Animals look very well treated and care for. Great to grab a picnic at too.
MoreOverall a great experience. $2 per person for zoo tickets but $3 to get through the regional park. But ultimately super cheap for a great day. Although it wasn’t super hot but it was stillWarm at 10:30 in the morning so some animals were wanting to sleep or hang out in the shade. But still a great experience for toddlers
MoreThe views were amazing. We took so many pictures. I saw many children very happy. They got excited around monkeys. Maybe they feel a connection. Only$2 to get in.
MoreCity and zoo founders prioritize money over animal welfare, lacking respect for nature. Animals in small cages, most animals seemed healthy, should be released back to the wild or sent to sanctuaries where they can roam freely in more land. Mixed species cause illness. OC zoo traps the animals in cages till they die. When you go pay those $2 dont walk in so excited to see them remember that they are trapped forever now because the city thinks they know best. Animals look depressed, anxious trying to find a way to escape and they are going crazy in there. The zoo in santa ana same thing. The animals sit there till the day they die. Don’t support this. Instead use your voice and ask them to send these animals to a proper environment where they can thrive. Kids are screaming being loud they don’t even teach parents to walk in with respect and to tell their child that these noises cause the animals to stress.
MoreI needed something to do while my husband was at a Conference. I decided to check out the OC Zoo and Irvine Regional Park. There's plenty of parking here. I didn't realize how HUGE this park actually is. I parked and walked (the long way) to get to the zoo first thing. The $2 entry fee cannot be beat (even with the $5 parking charge). The zoo is small, but the animals were lively and looked well cared for. I especially enjoyed the mountain lion exhibit and the coyotes who all definitely put on a show for visitors. I also liked the petting zoo, where you could not only feed, but also brush the goats. They had a few animals in the zoo that I'd never seen before anywhere else. Peacocks roam free here which I found entertaining also. I walked around one more time to see if any of the animals were doing anything different than the first time around and I was able to catch a few presentations. At the end, there were a couple employees with smaller animals out to touch and learn about, which was really nice and not something you'd typically see at a bigger zoo. I enjoyed my time at the OC Zoo and would like to visit again.
