Hi! I’m Marti and I’ve been a secondary mathematics educator for 18 years. I specialize in teaching mathematics to students with math trauma or those currently struggling with learning difficult topics. I fervently believe anybody can learn mathematics at the highest levels and I teach in a way that empowers students to see themselves as mathematicians. I highly encourage questions, growth mindset and curiosity as we tackle complex problems in ways that reduce anxiety and encourage joy. I’ve taught everything from Pre-Algebra to AP Calculus in the classroom and have tutored children ranging from 5th grade to college. My favorite subject to teach is Algebra since that’s where so many students struggle and begin a negative relationship with math. I have my BA degree in Mathematics and my MA in curriculum and instruction. This fall I’m starting my PhD in Mathematics Education at Stanford to study the effects of math trauma on underrepresented groups in STEM fields. I’m hoping to add a few more students to my schedule who need a weekly tutor that can help them calm any math anxieties or fears with their current homework assignments and tests.
