The Oyster Sidewalk on Charles Street is an 80-year survivor of an urban art form that has nearly disappeared. This section of once popular terrazzo covers one store front of space in front of what was once The Pearl Restaurant and Oyster Bar. In fact, two neon signs for the restaurant are still present, one above the now shuttered front door, and one attached on the second floor above a balcony that also protects passersby below from rain. The terrazzo itself has a bright pink section that runs along the front and contains the pictures of oysters on the halfshell plus at what was the restaurant entrance, a platter of six oysters and cocktail sauce. The ounce area is bordered by green, about 6 inches wide. Finally, there is an off-white strip. While there are some cracks that come with age, this artistic sidewalk is amazingly intact. Hopefully, the city will protect this into the future.
