tripadvisorConnor is enthusiastic, engaging, friendly, and welcoming. He loves to have conversations and share information as much as receiving information. The lunch at the end of the tour (not included in the cost, but well worth it) is great for getting to know the other tour participants as well as support the local community.
MoreConnor's tour is informative, engaging, intentional and interactive. I had no idea there was such rich Japanese American history in Portland, and it was so cool to walk through the waterfront and learn about all the hidden history behind it. Connor expertly balances an in-depth explanation of Japanese American history in Portland, from the late 1800s through WW2 incarceration, with a thoughtful and interactive exploration of what could be. There's so much to learn here and Connor walked our group through it all with so much intention and engagement, allowing us time to reflect and discuss as we walked. This tour would be great for people of all ages - the walking is mild and there are places to sit at each stop.
MoreConnor’s tour is as thoughtful as it is informative. He is knowledgeable, articulate, and has put together a fascinating and well-paced tour through Portland’s historic Japanese district and the Japanese American plaza on the waterfront. We loved that the tour talks not just about what was in Portland, but would could be if the city could lean deeper into community and its Japanese American communities who played such a big part in the Oregon’s development in the 1800s and 1900s. Some very heartbreaking history to walk through but Connor weaves the Japanese American story into a really touching and heartwarming reminder of what it means to be an American (certainly relevant now more than ever).I’ve lived in Portland for 5 years and had no idea there was so much art, meaning, and intentional design behind that part of the waterfront, there’s so much more than cherry blossoms to take in! Also loved that the tour at a delicious rec with excellent Japanese Curry. 10/10 recommend you take the time to do this tour, thank you Connor!
MoreThis is a family-friendly educational tour. Take what you know about Portland and learn so much more! Connor really personalizes the experience.
MoreThis was an excellent tour. Connor was very knowledgeable and made everyone in the diverse group feel welcome. I learned a great deal about the Japanese immigration and cultural experience in Portland and Oregon. He engaged the group in dialogue and discussion and overall it was a great experience. Highly recommended!
