tripadvisorLake Wood is located off of the Crooked Road in Hull's cove and is part of Acadia National Park. Lake wood has a small beach with a stunning lake, but few visitors who are lucky enough to locate the beach ever use it, instead visitors, mainly locals, opt instead to hike to various spots along the shoreline to their favorite swimming spots. It should be noted that Lake wood, while being in Acadia National Park, is not promoted by the National Park Service and park rangers periodically patrol the area. Nearby abandoned park trails include the old Fawn Pond Trail and the Young's Mountain Trail, and while these hiking trails have been abandoned they are fairly easy to follow. A ledge overlooks the lake and is used by swimmers to dive off of. A well worn path surrounds much of Lake Wood with many secluded spots for privacy. To arrive at Lake Wood, begin by turning onto the Crooked Road in Hull's cove, follow the Crooked Road beyond the towns sand pits and look for a very narrow dirt road leading up into the woods, a Lake wood street sign marks the start of the dirt road, and while the street sign says Private, the road and lake is open to the public. There is also a gate by the start of the dirt road as well, which is alway6s left open.Just up ahead you will come to the first of two parking areas, with a worn trail across from the parking area which was once a section of the abandoned Fawn Pond trail. Today the path serves as a way to reach the far end of the lake. If you continue to dri9ve you will come to a second and larger parking area with a small changing room. A gate marks the start of a short path through the woods to the lake. Lake Wood is very popular with the locals who love the fact that the National Park Service does not promote the site and what tourists do find their way to the lake do so by word of mouth.
