tripadvisorThey canceled my reservation after it was confirmed. I arrived 11 pm to be told my reservation was canceled. The only room they had, had no shower. No elevator working. Five flights of stairs. In the morning they gave me a room with a working shower. The toilet overflowed all over the floor. I paid through the website and overpaid. I’m stupid. I should have checked. Terrible experience.
MoreHi! I have to share my experience. I slept with a friend at the hotel, we arrived excited and happy. We quickly realized that we were in a very big problem. First of all, 2 nights out of the three there was no hot water in the shower, so I stood under the shower tap for 45 minutes hoping that someday there would be water. There wasn't and I showered with cold water with my hands. Same for the next day. If that wasn't enough, there was no elevator - it was broken - they put us on the fifth and last floor. On the day of our departure, we asked the reception to help us take our belongings down - when we were 2 young girls (20) with 3 suitcases and 2 backpacks - and it's five floors. The guy at the reception said that it wasn't their job and he would check if he could do anything - and then he saw that we were waiting for an answer because there was no phone so if we went up to a 5th floor room we would have to go down to get an answer - he called the hotel owner who told him to help us. The man at the reception told me in conversation that it was very heavy and he needed help and he couldn't carry it alone. Do you get it?! If that's not enough, the noises are also crazy in the morning and evening from the hotel staff who were on our floor, it was deafening. Oh - and our lock broke as soon as we opened the door. Broke by itself. In short - I don't recommend it under any circumstances!!!
MoreTrying to communicate with the hotel is impossible. Require to cancel a booking 3 months in advance which is meant to be free only to be advised by booking.com they will message to see if they will waiver the full amount and charge a fee. They are meant to contact within 24hr. 48 hours later nothing and on trying to communicate by telephone the number is continuously engaged (or left off the hook). Be very aware when booking that there clearly can be no amendments or changes.
MoreI rarely write negative reviews, but travelers should be aware of a serious security issue I experienced during my stay.Shortly after I checked in around 7:30 PM, an individual who appeared to be in crisis entered the hotel and began behaving erratically in the lobby and first-floor hallway. As I was entering my room, he attempted to follow me inside. I struggled to close the door while he tried to pull it open. After I got the door shut, he continued pounding on my door and attempting to gain entry.I immediately called 911. What was most alarming was that the hotel was unable to secure the building. The front desk clerk told me she could not locate the key needed to lock the front entrance. As the situation escalated, she retreated from the front desk for her own safety while the building remained unsecured. The incident continued for hours. He kept returning throughout the night and banging on my door. It was not resolved until approximately 5:00 AM, when police finally arrived and transported the individual to a hospital. My concern is not with the individual, who appeared to be experiencing a mental health crisis and needed help. My concern is with the hotel's inability to secure its entrance and protect guests during an active safety incident. The room itself was acceptable, but safety is the most basic service a hotel provides. Until the hotel has reliable security procedures in place, I cannot recommend staying here. This was one of the most frightening hotel experiences I have ever had in over 30 years of business travel and resulted in a completely sleepless night for me and my family back home, who were on the phone with me, terrified for my safety.
MoreI have never dealt with a hotel as unprofessional and impossible to communicate with as Aura Hotel Brooklyn. I canceled my reservation WELL BEFORE the cancellation deadline, yet they still charged me and completely ignored every attempt to resolve the issue. No one answers the phone. No one responds to emails. It feels like they intentionally avoid guests once they’ve taken your money. I have records of my cancellation attempts and multiple unanswered messages, yet they continue to ignore the situation instead of doing the right thing. This is beyond bad customer service — it feels dishonest and predatory. A legitimate business should not make customers fight this hard just to get a response regarding an improper charge.I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel unless you want to risk being charged unfairly and then ghosted by management. There are plenty of hotels in Brooklyn that actually respect their guests and honor their policies.Aura Hotel Brooklyn: your silence and lack of accountability say everything about how you treat customers. I expect this issue to be corrected immediately.
