The O&W Rail Trail in & around the southern Catskill region, in total, is 27 miles long (one way) &, in addition to being called the O&W, it gives itself different names such as the Kerhonkson Rail Trail, which is a PART of the O&W. We parked @ the Rest Plaus Road Trailhead, near High Falls/High Falls/Marbletown & biked approximately 9 miles. It is a gravel-over-packed dirt roadbed. Being that it is lined by trees, there are a LOT of exposed tree roots on the trail, as well as muddy track after it rains. Be aware that sides slope down steeply in some places (typical of old railbeds). There are multiple public streets to cross, some with steep slopes leading to/from them & signage will suggest you dismount your bike. There are many trailheads with ample parking & Port-A-Potties. You pass over good bridges, farm fields, forested areas, lots of crossing chipmunks, there are many walkers (dogs must be leashed) & you can exit/enter anytime if you want to stop for a bite to eat. Not the best trail if you have a street bike, but good for hybrid bikes, walkers, & runners (watch out for those tree roots!)
