tripadvisorCovington Cannon Monument is a small but nicely kept historic site on the east side of the commercial and office complex area of Baltimore now known as The Peninsula. It is located at the end of Tidewater Street where it meets the pier. The less than quarter acre site is planted with shrubs, flowers, and a well-tended lawn. There are two sturdy benches overlooking the harbor. A large brass plaque is set in the stone supporting the cannon and describes its roll and that of heroic US sailors during an 1814 battle that was part of the War of 1812. In addition to the monument, one can view large ships at dock. Technically there is no parking at this venue, but today was exceedingly quiet in the area, so I was able to stop and walk over to the site.
