Our stay at the Howard Johnson in Malden was extremely disappointing, and I would not recommend this hotel based on our experience.Upon arriving at approximately 3:00 a.m. after a long day of travel, we found the front desk employee asleep on the floor behind the glass window. I had to bang on the window to get his attention. We also encountered a homeless individual in the cantina area and another in the parking lot, which added to our concerns about the overall environment. The room itself was in poor condition. Upon arrival, it had a strong musty odor, the toilet did not flush properly, and there were smashed bugs on the shower curtain. The bathroom was particularly unappealing, with rust, grime, and deteriorating caulk throughout. We were also provided only three flat pillows for two adults, and several wall outlets worked intermittently.Noise was another major issue. On our second night, the guests above us stomped around continuously from midnight until 4:00 a.m. I called the front desk at 3:00 a.m. to report the disturbance. Although someone called back to assure me the issue had been handled, the noise continued. Additionally, the room phone did not illuminate its buttons, making it difficult to use in the dark. The following night, our room key stopped working, creating yet another inconvenience.Between the lack of attentive service, cleanliness concerns, maintenance issues, and inability to get a reasonable night's sleep, this stay fell far below acceptable standards. After a long day of travel, we expected a clean, safe, and comfortable place to rest. Unfortunately, none of those expectations were met.I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this hotel to others.

It's dark outside, not all lit up like the photo shows you. It's smells like urine when you walk up to the door, as well as inside. The guy behind desk must know how nasty it is because he had a spray bottle of disinfectant I'm guessing and a rag with him at all times . If you are handicapped, this place is not for you either. Their solution is to carry you and your stuff upstairs. Then because we declined that, he offered us a single bed on the bottom floor. We canceled our second night ,and because he wasn't going to refund our money because we opted to go to a regular hotel I had my credit card dispute the charges and I got totally reimbursed. So, I highly recommend avoiding this place if you want a pleasant stay.

I spent $280 on a room with a king sized bed because I needed a place last minute. In retrospect, I should have just slept at the bus terminal. The entire place was filthy - the lobby, the hallway, the floors of the room itself. The sheets smelled like sweat and didn’t seem like they had been washed. There were crumbs and fingernail clippings swept along the side of the nightstand. I would have potentially stayed here if it cost more like $100 — the price I paid was absurd for what I got.
