Northeast Pacific Basin
Landmark
Stretching from the very top of North America down to the Southern end of Mexico, the Northeast Pacific Basin has undergone a serious identity shift since being the focus of 1970s bathymetric studies. While the Pacific's reputation for peaceful waters can be found right in its name, this expanse of the world's largest ocean is responsible for generating the second highest number of hurricanes. Older and deeper than any existing ocean basin, this 200 million year old depression spanning the entire coast of the United States has some equally deep geological history.
