Great show. Very clean theatre. Remarkably well cooled despite 90+ degree temperatures.

We saw Mousetrap which was very fun. We are season ticket holders so we see a lot. Usually the plays are very entertaining. My comment is about Chowgirls, the concessionaire that is now handling food/beverages for Guthrie theater goers. They started at the time of just leaving Covid. At first they were very good. Now it is time they go. The previous times I bought a $5 cookie, brown butter chocolate chip, they were exceptional. The last 2 times I got them, they were at least a week old. Hard, difficult to break. Dry, powdery tasting. If they can't provide fresh food they shouldn't be there. Also, the $14 glass of Sav Blanc was not even 2.5 ounces. So miniscule! What a rip off. Then of course the pressure for a tip. Get rid of this group!!!! It is bad enough that the parking lot across the street from the Guthrie is now $15 for event parking. For a total day it is $10. Unfortunately I just renewed for the '25-'26 season. These little nits are taking the glamour/fun out of going to the Guthrie.

The Guthrie theater complex is a mix of good and not-so-good. The three theaters: the thrust, the proscenium, and the box are all fine, with the proscenium being the least attractive (hope you like red) and the box theater is neutral (layout varies with the production) while the thrust stage is actually an improvement on the old Guthrie's thrust stage (better sound, seating and sight-lines.) Plays in the proscenium theater are usually roadshows, and vary in quality. The thrust stage productions have more imaginative set designs and are better productions. The box theater has been shut down since Covid, although there are hints that it might be opening again. When it was operating it was excellent. The exterior and the lobby spaces (by French starchitect Jean Nouvell) display a dismal lack of warmth and are gloomy and awkward, with most of the window looking out on uninteresting views. The balcony is inspiring, however, and the 'amber lobby' is worth a look. Since Covid the restaurants have been shut down, although they weren't so good when they were open.

BEST Shakespeare’s Mid Summer Nights Dream i have ever seen(and it’s one of my favorite plays). The level of exceptional physical comedy, bits of musical genius, timing and surprises that delighted everyone into spontaneous applause and laughter throughout the entire play was without end. I never wanted it to end either. But it did with a standing ovation. I hope to see it again before its over. What a gift! Thank you to all involved. Simply stunning.

Watching a play at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis is a special experience. The Wurtele Thrust Stage is especially enjoyable with seating that encircles the stage on 3 sides. There isn't a bad seat in the house and prices are kept at reasonable levels especially given the quality of the performances. We enjoyed seeing A Christmas Carol here last winter which is always delightful during the holiday season. I would preorder your drinks for intermission and enjoy some time out on the observation deck before the show or during intermission for wonderful views of the Mississippi River and Stone Arch Bridge.
