Hennepin museum is all about the local history of the city of Hennepin and its surrounding regions. The building features European architecture and the interiors resemble that of a mansion. The exhibitions held here are in the form of images, documents and archives, that provide information on the cultural growth of the urban, suburban and rural communities, that truly take you back in time, helping you see the Hennepin county at its inception. The exhibits are also known to showcase the medical treatments that were used in the olden times. The museum is fondly recalled among the best museums for local history and art (done by both local and international artists), making it a great place for all those who are drawn towards culture and history of the region.

tripadvisorHello,It is free.I was quite disappointed. I have been to local history museums that show the local history. This museum lacked that local flavor. There is somebody there but I am not sure how much she knew about the museum. This museum has three exhibit rooms. One was dedicated to the devastating effects of the 35 Freeway had on Black communities and how it may have been intentional. There was a lot of reading (which I am not good at). The evidence was compelling. The next room was the genealogy of the McMullen family. A lot of reading. Physical items included a few pictures, tools, and a couple of pottery items. The last, I re. It appeared to be a classroom. The roof on the second floor needs some serious renovation. The other room that the visitors can go in had little furniture, making the large room look bare. I am talking about what is available to the public, there could be a lot in there research rooms. It is within walking distance of what I consider the premiere art museum in MN. This museum being free, it does not hurt to take a look. Last fact, very limited hours.
MoreIf you aren't from the area, or don't have a special interest in the county or its history, you might not find much of particular interest... and probably little of interest to younger children. However, they do put on regular exhibits of wider interest (such as women's suffrage, racism and housing, etc.) and if you are looking for info on the county or towns within the county, the archive staff is very helpful about looking up things in they may have in their specialized archive. Exhibits change regularly, so check to see if the current exhibit might be of interest.
MoreIf you get in for free go ahead, otherwise not worth the money. Little information given to you when you arrive. The person at the front desk did not greet us or ask if we'd ever been there before or share any history or information with us. Basically three rooms with memorabilia from Hennepin county. Must be able to walk stairs.
MoreThe museum collaborated with an upstart museum to creat a curious and creative exhibit of the world of bicycling in MN. Hennepin History Museum, with its unique and insightful exhibits, provided the Cycling Museum of MN space to share their “Lifecycles” exhibit in the living room of this once grand home. Combining many audiences to see various exhibits provided all with a special experience to expand their awareness of both museums. It is a wonderful museum to visit anytime you are in the Twin Cities.
MoreFull of artifacts from Hennepin County, plus clothes from the 1800's and more. OWNING UP Racism and Housing in Minneapolis is a thought provoking exhibit. It will be there until Jan.20th. If you are from this area, It is a must see.
