tripadvisorThe Purcell-Cutts House in MInneapolis was designed and built by George Grant Elmslie and William Gray Purcell in 1913 in the Prairie School style of Architecture. This lovely building was originally the home of the Purcell family but was sold to the Cutts family in 1919. In 1985 the owners bequeathed the property to The Minneapolis Institute of Art and it is currently open for tours.
MoreThis is a relatively small Prairie style house near Lake of the Isles in Minneapolis. It is filled with light that comes through 80 stained glass windows. Above the fireplace on the main floor, a serene mural was painted, and a statue related to the Adventures of Nils book rests on a pedestal. Then there's the Peekaboo window at the front door. These are just a few of the treats the house has to offer. We definitely recommend a visit!
MoreMy husband and I love touring historic houses and really enjoyed the Purcell-Cutts House. The house is beautiful and has so many hidden innovations. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, interesting, and clearly was passionate about the house.
MoreThis house of the Prairie School style has been owned by the Minneapolis Institute of Art since 1985. It reminds you of a Frank Lloyd Wright house. It is one of the very few great examples of this style. It was built in 1913. Take a tour. You will enjoy it.
MoreArchitects William Gray Purcell and George Grant Elmslie designed the Edna S. Purcell house in 1913. Gem of the Prairie School style, and one of the most significant examples in the country. Must see. I was totally in awe of everything these two gentlemen thought of. Simply Amazing. Open once a month the second weekend of every month. We had the honor of a retired school teacher to be our guide and she was wonderful.
