MoreThis place felt like your typical hometown pub. They have live music, which is getting harder to find. Could've used a bit more staff, I found it a little irritating to have to wait so long for a drink, either by server or even at the bar itself. Clean, bathrooms could use a little TLC, otherwise, we really enjoyed ourselves!
MoreIt has great country and rock and roll music, with AWESOME owners and employees. All the locals go there and $2.00 beers all the time.
MoreThe funny thing about North Star Bar is that it tends to get a bad reputation. My mother used to go to North Star Bar back in the 1970's and it was a seedy spot with fights galore. Honestly, it still does have a tendency of being seedy but I also feel like that's not necessarily a bad thing. It makes sure that all the fake people remain downtown, and the locals and real people make it to North Star Bar. North Star Bar is actually a pretty fun location to attend rock and metal concerts, whether from a little known cover band to actual decently big rock and metal bands. The stage is small but it's an intimate concert venue for sure. The sound is decent for a bar. The bartenders and servers can be a little rough around the edges, but I guess seedy staff come with a seedy venue. I would say North Star Bar is a destination to visit if you know a live band is playing that night, or if you want to get a feel for how locals really feel.
MoreLooks a bit run down but that's all part of its charm. Goes along with the history of the place. Staff is always great and have decent prices on drinks. Pretty excellent sound/light system and live music here is stellar. Not a hip-hop or Top 40 style place, so if you like classic rock / rock / metal, give it a chance. Occasionally they will have country but rarely. This place has had a bad rap in the past but has really cleaned up its image. I have been going to this place since I was old enough to go, and I'm 34 now. I have never felt unsafe. The few times I had issues with creepy guys, the staff took care of them immediately. I wouldn't say there's a dress code either - I've seen people in everything from sweats to clubwear to full-on pirate gear (no joke). Oh, and never a cover charge!
