Good place for long walks, jogging or running (we run 12 km in that park) and biking. U might see deers and rabbits along the trail.

Harris County and the city of Houston have a good system of parks, many of which are unknown to residents. I just discovered one such park- a stretch of trees, picnic areas, sporting fields, and playgrounds close to where I live, but I never knew it was there. It’s Cullen Park, located on the west edge of Houston, next to Katy. Cullen Park is a multi- purpose park complete with soccer fields, baseball fields, playgrounds, covered pavilions, a bike track, walking trails, etc. The area is mostly wooded and it is common to see wildlife. I have noticed a few deer when I have visited the park and it is common to find snakes, so watch where you step. My main reason to visit Cullen Park is for the walking trails. There are a few trails in the park, but the main one is found at the end of the Phase 2 picnic area, right next to the exercise area. This paved path is about 3.5 miles long and it continues all the way to Highway 6. It has the miles marked, in quarter- mile increments. This is very handy for those who like to track their miles walked. Walking the entire trail to the end and back is close to 7 miles total. The paved trail pathway is good for walking or bicycling and it even passes by an historic cemetery. And the tall trees along the path mean that most of it is shaded. There are a few open spots, but the majority of the time spent on the trails is shielded from the sun, so you don’t need sunscreen. There are benches along the path for resting and I like how there are so many trash receptacles along the path and throughout the park, to keep things clean. Cullen Park isn’t as well known as other parks and the reason is mainly due to its location, on Saums Road. This is not a major throughway, so many who live in the area will not even realize this park exists. I was one of them, but now that I know about Cullen Park, there is an excellent chance I will be returning in the future. It’s a good place for recreation and exercise here in west Houston.

I love the paved running/biking trail that’s part of Cullen Park! Used to run there all the time when I was on the cross country team at Mayde Creek. Lots of shade, pretty wide, a couple pavilion areas with water fountains along the way. The mileage markers have been replaced recently, though some of the benches could use some work.

While in the Katy area, I had some free time so I thought I would check out the area and found Cullen Park. The signage into the park needs updating as it is hard to read unless you are right on top of it. Numerous soccer and baseball / softball fields and plenty of places to dispose of your garbage. A nice city park that I hope gets plenty of use.
