Another trip to the Portland Farmers Market, so another trip to Deering Oaks Park. They've restored the 1886 Victorian 'Duck House' that's in the middle of the pond, but this time around, a few seagulls seemed to be taking it over (see picture).

We went to the nearby Farmers Market and took a few photos of the park. There was so much rain in early summer that the park is lush with greenery. There weren't any flowers that we could see, but July was the hottest on record, so they probably faded out. There were tons of ducks and geese. And, the pool is open.

Who knew this was here!? The splash pad was great — lots of kids with plenty of space to play and chase the alternating fountains that spout up. It’s just below where the farmers market is, beyond the duck pond. Some spots were shallower than others and there’s a little ramp to ease into it.

I’m glad we stumbled upon this lovely park. It’s very pretty and has lots of benches and it’s a nice place to sit in sun or shade and you can watch all the ducks

My route to the Northgate Shopping Center took me by Deering Oaks Park. I’d been past it before, but this time I managed to slow down in time to drive in the entrance.Driving through it, I found that it was a 50+ acre park. I went past a baseball field, tennis courts, basketball courts, other courts, a playground, the roadway to the splash pad that was closed off, and a large pond.Near the end of the roadway, I came upon the pond with a jet d’eau. There were dozens of ducks living at the pond on an island in the pond that had a large duck house for them. I found this the most scenic part of the park on the west side of State Street.I walked around the Deering Oaks Pond for awhile. Near the roadway, there was a large tree in bloom. I guessed it to be a white oak. There was also a small castle-like building n the other side of the roadway.I enjoyed my visit to this park that has a lot to offer and is obviously a place for a lot of activities in the city. There was a notice that the Farmer’s Market was moving from this park. I rate Deering Oaks Park at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below.
