This park is where the city of Vanport, formerly Oregon's second largest, was destroyed in 1948 by a tsunami flood. The one retaining wall collapsed and sent a 12-foot wave washing over the city. Now, this 633-acre natural area contains optimal wetland hiking and the Heron Lakes Golf Course. Lush marshes are home to an abundance of indigenous flora and fauna. West Delta Park area is also designated for the United States Army during national emergencies.

tripadvisorWe didn't have our dog with us on this visit but stopped by and enjoyed watching a couple of dogs gambol. What fun they were having! Unfortunately I didn't have my camera. The dog 'pastures' are each very large with lots of room and appear to be completely fenced. There are trees right there so they are partly shaded in summer. Located just a few minutes via surface streets from Columbia River RV Park where we were staying, this would be an easy place for RVers to let their dogs have a good run!
MoreA great place to let our dog run free. Most of the other dog owners are respectful of other owners. Truly well kept facility.
MoreThey warn you to take your valuables with you, but dang! One of our teammates thwarted a break in, and another guy we know actually chased down a guy who was busting windows and retrieved a backpack full of stolen stuff. People, if you know it's a problem, protect your patrons and GET SECURITY!!The fields are nice, although parks staff was slow in getting them prepped for Sunday morning games. Time to get turf!! Concession with wine & beer is a winner, friendly staff.
Moregreat fenced dog areas. Across the road all sports fields, picnic areas. good for a walk or long sit
MoreWife and I used this sports megaplex park for a walking spot while at the Residence Inn in North Portland on Anchor Way. Made up of about eight different softball, soccer and frisbee fields we were able to pretty much walk the perimeter of the entire complex and got in about 4 miles in an hour about 7 pm on a weekday. Every field in the park was being used to the max which made for plenty of eyes available for safety purposes. About a quarter of a mile from the hotel. We will likely use this spot again next month when through this area.
