While vacationing in Colorado for a month we’ve try to find a different place to walk every day. This park was a great little while and a half walk. The weather is great it’s warm and in the 50s the surrounding areas are picturesque

There are lots of places named Bear Creek in this part of Denver because of (surprise!) Bear Creek, the stream which runs down from Evergreen, through Morrison, Lakewood, and Denver to its confluence with the South Platte River in Englewood. A paved multisuface bike/walk path runs along most of its length, including a stretch through this large and lovely unit of the Denver city park system. Although the physical address is on W Kenyon Avenue across from the Fort Logan Military Cemetary (see listing) the parking lots, playground, athletic fields, and picnic shelters are reached by car by crossing under Highway 285 on south Raleigh Street.off Dartmouth Avenue. Besides the creek itself, there are two main attractions to this good sized park. There is a network of paved and dirt nature trails on the south side of the creek. On the north side, there is a playground with a unique feature. We used to call it the Hat Park because of a slide shaped ike a giant yellow sombrero or Mexican hat. You could see the distinctive paint job from a long ways away, and the creases of the brim formed a two sided slide. Apparently that is no longer politically correct because the hat is now a brown cowboy hat. Play equipment near the bottom of the slide has been removed and now there are giant knees protuding from the ground, but only one exrtra large cowboy boot. A semi circlular wall around the play area tellls a story of a cowboy who wandered the area and decided to settle down at Bear Creek. OK, but what happened to his other foot? I liked it better the way it was. It was also probably more historically accurate for the area- just make the story about a vaquero (Mexican cowboy). Oh well, It's still a fun place for kids and the paint job doesn't affect the sliding surface. Deer and other wildlife can be seen frequently on the nature trails, Dogs are allowed thoughout the park and strollers and wheelchairs have no steps or other barriers to enjoying the entire park as well. Just be careful if you are walking on the Bear Creek trail itself as the posted speed limit is 15 mph and there is a solid line down the middle but many cyclists think they're actually on the highway overhead and zip along closer to that speed limit,
