tripadvisorThis review focuses on the Mission Peak Trailhead.Maybe one of the best trails in the Bay Area. It's a good workout going up and reasonably easy coming down. The views are amazing along the entire length of the trail. You can approach the trail from Ohlone College or from this trailhead. Having done the Ohlone College approach several times, I recommend this trailhead. Here you can do a nice loop. If the parking lot is full, there is curb parking down the street. I've done this trail in the blazing sun and as today, it was a bit cloudy. I prefer cloudy. Absolutely no shade through most of the trail.
MoreBRING ATLEAST 2 WATER BOTTLES 676oz. On my first time doing this hike i ran out of water near the summit. I was very thirsty the rest of the way down. The hike is challenging for beginners but, it is worth it when you see the amazing views of the bay area.
MoreThis is a challenging hike and I've done it many times, but today I got an $82 parking ticket. There is very limited parking at the Stanford Ave trail head, even at 7 a.m., and everyone parks on Vineyard Ave. I must have parked a little farther down Vineyard today than I have in past visits, and this one time I got a ticket. Very nice that the homeowners in this area do not want others to enjoy the space - and created permit-only parking. I don't recommend at all. The trail is scrappy and uneven, very dry in June, very muddy during winter months. Go to Big Basin or the coast. So many other places that are prettier.
MoreThe peak can be reached via two trails: the Stanford entrance and the Ohlone College route. Renowned for its demanding trail, it rewards hikers with breathtaking & panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay Area. Adequate hiking gear and ample water are essential for this challenging adventure.
MoreThis was my first hike ever (Feb 2021) & it was exhausting. I was quite out of shape & was not prepared for this hike at all. We began our climb from the Stanford side. Tons of switchbacks, persistent elevation & exposed for the most parts, this was a really difficult hike for me to start with. The views were also, IMO, not really rewarding. But standing on the erected pipe at the top was a great feeling. Not a must try or a definite recommend, but of you’re a Fremont resident, you may as well check this out.
