Howarth Park is one of the largest, and probably the most varied, city park in all of Sonoma County. It includes a large playground with western town, climbing structures, and more, plus a smaller playground in a different area; lawns; bbq areas; a small train to ride; a merry-go-round; a lovely lake with paddle boats to rent, sailing classes, and more; and bicycling, hiking or walking trails, both paved and unpaved, through shaded oak forest and the remains of historic basalt quarries. We go here all the time. We used to take our kids to the train or playgrounds and now we hike here on a regular basis. Moreover, the park and its trails link directly into the larger Spring Lake County Park and from there to the much larger and more wild Annadel State Park. Altogether, these make a huge and varied park system which starts right in town and goes out for many miles into the hilly countryside.

For a stroll through a city park, this has a beautiful trail with a nice canopy of Oak trees around a small lake with ducks & geese. A social walk with people watching activity. #7 of 10 favorite regional parks.

The playground equipment in the main playground is very impressive. There is a much smaller playground but that consists mainly of swings and a rock wall for much older kids. The main playground has lots of elaborate equipment which younger kids will really enjoy. A short walking distance away is the lake. There is plenty of wildlife. During Covid times, the carousel and railway are closed. There is also plenty of free parking. All in all, a very enjoyable experience and well worth a visit.

Spending time in Howarth Park is a great way to while away an afternoon. I like to feed the ducks at the pond while having my lunch. There is the paddleboarding which is nice during the summer months. I also like to walk along the paths that lead to Spring Lake park. They make for a scenic and enjoyable walk.

This is a good place to introduce kids to our parks. A small lake with boat rentals and fishing opportunities, great picnic areas, tennis courts, and a path that takes you further into Spring Lake and Annadel Park. Easy access in Santa Rosa.
