Set along the eastern banks of the restful Colorado River, Mount Bonnell's verdant headlands dominate Austin's western topography. Also known as Covert Park, the location is a stunning progression of luxuriant grasslands, scenic waterfronts, peaceful picnic spots and breathtaking vista points. Inducted into the National Register of Historic Places in the year 2015, the lands are home to Mount Bonnell's Indian Trail, one of the cornerstones of the American War of Independence. Legend has it that the final 99 steps to the mount's top hold enchanting qualities; if a couple climbs the mount once, they fall in love, twice, they become engaged, and three times, they are destined to be married.

tripadvisorDecent little park with nice views of the Colorado River and Austin skyline. Short easy walk up some steps and a few paths in either direction with lookouts. I was a little surprised with the amount of trash and cigarette butts around. Definitely not a must do.
Morevery short and chill hiking. great view. easy parking. nice to see all the beautiful houses along the river
MoreWe were almost deterred by other reviewers who claimed you could not see views of the skyline. This is incorrect! We saw beautiful views today of both the skyline and the river. Definitely worth the trip, and it’s free! Make sure to go both ways (left and right) on the path when you get to the top of the steps.
MoreI was hoping this viewpoint would allow a good view of downtown Austin, but unfortunately that is not the case. The view to the west is quite expansive, but the view to the east has become so overgrown that you really can't see anything. It's a nice little hike, but a disappointing view.
MoreRelatively easy hike up to the top, depending on the humidity at the time. Considering how popular this is, the experience was a bit underwhelming. Nice nature walk across the street though, and that was more interesting. Saw some unusual local birds.
