My wife and I are visiting Oregon from Vancouver BC. We’re staying in Silverton so that we could hike Silver Falls which was incredibly beautiful. Today we kayaked the Silverton Reservoir in the morning and decided to check out Salem. When I did a web search of things to do in Salem, Minto - Brown Island Park wasn’t even mentioned. What an awesome place to go for a long walk or bike ride. Would highly recommend.

Title: A Natural Haven with a Dash of Intrigue: Minto Brown Park, Salem, ORRating: 3.5/5Minto Brown Island Park, located in the heart of Salem, Oregon, is an oasis of natural beauty that caters to a myriad of outdoor lovers. This sprawling 1200-acre park, one of the largest in Salem, offers an immersive experience of the Pacific Northwest's lush greenery, thriving wildlife, and tranquil waterways. The park's well-maintained trails are its prime attraction. Stretching over 30 miles, these trails are a delight for walkers, joggers, and cyclists alike. Dog owners will appreciate the off-leash area, where their furry friends can frolic freely. Birdwatchers and nature photographers will find a treasure trove of avian species and picturesque landscapes to capture. The park's namesake, the Minto Brown Island, is a serene spot for picnicking or simply contemplating life by the Willamette River's edge. The park's playground is a hit with children, though it could use a bit more shade on sunny days. However, amidst this natural charm, I noticed an element of concern. There appeared to be some illicit activity taking place on a few occasions. The dealings were discreet, but their suspicious nature was hard to ignore. When I tried to address this, the individuals involved quickly dispersed. While this didn't disrupt my overall experience, it did cast a shadow on the otherwise peaceful atmosphere. The city authorities could do well to increase patrolling in the area to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors. Despite these issues, Minto Brown Park is a beautiful place that offers a relaxing escape from the city life. Its shortcomings do not detract entirely from its allure, but they do warrant attention for the park to reach its full potential. In conclusion, Minto Brown Island Park is a green gem in Salem's crown, somewhat tarnished by issues that are hopefully transient. Its natural splendor is a constant invitation to residents and tourists, and with some improvements, it can truly shine as a safe and serene retreat.

Minto Brown Island is a conservation area. It's accessible from Riverfront Park by going over a beautiful pedestrian bridge. It's so inspiring seeing so many walkers, runners, bikers, etc. being healthy and enjoying nature. My daughter liked seeing lots of woolly bear caterpillars.

Very large, mostly wild park on the banks of the Willamette river. Extensive walking/running/biking trails. Particularly beautiful in spring and summer when flowers and trees in bloom. Large dog play area. Great for a picnic, family friendly, but mostly a great place for a walk/run through woods and fields and get a feel of nature.
