MoreWe had been to Vancouver Lake Park in 2020 and it was very well kept and very beautiful. However, we went last summer there was dog poop everywhere we stepped. We really went to have a good time and enjoy the sandy beach and we brought our blanket to put on the grass and just enjoy the peacefulness and beauty of this beautiful park, but when people have dogs running all over and every step you take you step in dog pooh , it makes you not want to go back. It’s a shame because it’s really a very beautiful and fun place to visit but definitely needs some oversight to keep it clean and enjoyable.
MoreWe were here on a Saturday, first week of October. It wasn't crowded, possibly because of the warnings about toxic algae in the lake. A few people were using kayaks or canoes. It's an attractive park with trees and large grassy areas. It's not a quiet place - the playground, picnic areas, and volleyball nets attract screamers. There are some large covered picnic areas. There are paved paths and packed-dirt paths that seem wheelchair-compatible.We saw a lot of squirrels. We saw ducks flying overhead, No birds on the water - they probably know it's toxic. There are restrooms, but many of them were locked. The one I found open wasn't clean. There is no entry fee, but parking costs $3.00.
MoreFor a small daily or annual fee, you can get park and beach parking, some in full shade. I have now been 3 times this summer, of the family's 6 trips. We can bring bikes or just walk the paved trails or the fields. Bring kayaks or canoe for the lake. They offer several grills and picnic tables, or just spread a blanket on the grass. A true beach to launch or frolic in and sand vollyball court to play. Restrooms with large changing areas provide all day comfort and convenience. The views are amazing, on the beach or floating out in the lake, looking between Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens, with trees and more water between. There is also fishing spots further down the lake at separate parking spots. You can come lightly for a swim or pack food and toys to enjoy several hours(my choice).
MoreI wanted to like this park, and I think I really would if there wasn't goose poop EVERYWHERE. Not to mention the water is absolutely filthy. This place needs some serious maintenance, especially if they're going to charge for parking.
