tripadvisorCompleted almost 9 miles walking at White Rock Lake Trail and honestly it’s one of the easiest and most peaceful walking spots around Dallas. The trail is basically a smooth walkway around the lake, so it’s perfect for casual walking, jogging, cycling or even just relaxing with friends and family. You do have to share the path with bikes, but overall the vibe is very chill and organized. The best part is the beautiful water views all around feels more like a long walking plaza beside the lake than a tough hiking trail. The full loop around the lake gives amazing scenery, fresh air and plenty of spots to sit, take pictures, or just enjoy nature. Great place for beginners, fitness walks, sunrise/sunset views, and long conversations while walking. Definitely worth visiting if you want an easy outdoor activity without difficult terrain.
MoreI went there for a simple nature walk and I knew that the lake was big, but I didn’t expect to be that big. It would probably take 4 hours to walk around, but I would recommend to come and visit. A lot of space to walk around and a nice place for a picnic.
MoreI came to this park to nature-watch, exercise outdoors, and enjoy some open sky. For wildlife I had the best luck at the spillway near Garland Road (egrets, turtles, cormorants, gulls, and coots) and near the pump station (Monk parakeets). It was mostly a positive experience, including friendly people on the trail. I was put off by the extensive litter on the shores and on the spillway. I was also disturbed by an angry Christian man on a bullhorn screaming anti-Islamic sentiments that carried across the lake. He is the most hateful person I encountered during my trip to Dallas. In the future he should stay home and stew in his own xenophobic bitterness rather than attempt to damage the peace and quiet of the great outdoors.
MoreWent to Dallas to visit old friends. Had to go birding given the distance from home. Started at the park at the spillway and then drove the west side areas. Sadly, the do-gooders no longer allow you to drive the length of the park and you have divert back into traffic. Lots of birds including a Bald Eagle nest (missed it as it wrong time of day) Found bird 504 - Western Sandpiper - at the spillway. Lots of ducks and pelicans plus a very noisy flock of Monk Parakeets. Very nice walk but look out for the aggressive
MoreThe trails are great and are used by a lot of people. There is trash absolutely everywhere. How does a refrigerator get thrown in a lake? This could be a very nice lake if it were cleaned up and people would stop being jerks.
