tripadvisorI booked the Fort Rock Stargazing Tour and was very disappointed with the overall experience. The tour was poorly organized, communication was limited, and I had concerns about the attention to guest safety. There was very little information provided in advance about the length of the tour, what to expect, or transportation to and from the site. Several guests brought chairs that were not traditional camping chairs, and there was not enough room in the van to accommodate them. As a result, the chairs were placed underneath other guests’ feet, leaving very limited foot room in an already cramped space for a long drive. After arriving at Fort Rock, we took a short nature walk around the area at sunset. Since we would be returning after dark, I would have expected the guides to advise guests to bring flashlights or headlamps. No such recommendation was made, and the walk back was difficult to navigate in the dark, which raised concerns about safety. The lack of preparation was also evident when the guides used rock-paper-scissors to determine who would lead the hike. While this may have been intended to be lighthearted, it contributed to the overall impression that the tour had not been well planned. There was one clear bright spot: Brian was extremely knowledgeable and engaging, and he was the highlight of the experience.Unfortunately, despite Brian’s efforts, the overall lack of communication, organization, and attention to safety made this a tour I would not recommend.
MoreMet in Bend at their office and traveled a very short distance south. The hike out was fine. It was mostly paved with a short trek up a service road path. I would highly recommend that you take a chair and not a blanket. We laid on the rocky and dusty path and looked up. We really feel that they should not even recommend anything other than a chair. We were told that they had seen 100 meteorites on a trip. We maybe saw 20. The group was spread out on the path and there really wasn’t any group huddle or program. We sat in the dirt and dust and looked up at less than a dark sky experience. We were barely out of Bend. The walk back to the van we saw more of what we were expecting in the sky. A sky filled with stars. but we were walking and there really was a time to stop and look. The guides were friendly. I wish they had pushed taking a chair without an option of taking a blanket. I would suggest that they gather the group and explain what to expect and where to look and what we were seeing in the sky.
MoreOur guide, Brian, was very informative. We enjoyed the sights on our canoe/beer tasting tour on Elk Lake. It was close to 100 degrees that day but was perfect on the lake.
MoreNewberry Volcano Tour with Jared was a spectacular intro to Central Oregon geology, human and natural history, and scenery. The whole family (ages 9-80) had a fantastic morning and Jared set the standard for guides with his incredible knowledge, positivity, enthusiasm for learning and sharing, and love of the area. A Jared is now a term used in our family to denote someone who is the GOAT at what they do. Thank you Jared for guiding us!
MoreWe did the starlight canoe tour, our host was Chaney. We've never met a more knowledgeable astronomy guy like Chaney!! GREAT night under the stars in a canoe. The whole staff was professional, & made signing up for this excersion easy.
