Located in the middle of Belle Isle is the delightful Belle Isle Nature Center. Opened in 1895, the nature center has an impressive collection of amphibians, fish, mammals and reptiles from around Michigan. An elevated walkway takes visitors past exhibits showing the diverse Michigan wildlife. Make sure you stop by the Deer Encounter to feed fallow deer and check out the Michigan Turtle Exhibit in the auditorium. Belle Isle Nature Center is a fun visit for both children and adults.

tripadvisorThis is a small nature center that is free and really for kids. There's tunnels to climb through, an area where kids can dig, a handful of exhibits with turtles, snakes, etc... Well-maintained. For adults, probably just a 20-minute walkthrough. Kids could be entertained for over an hour. There's a playground adjacent..
More2 seniors, 2 adults, 2 children It was very nicely put together. Felt though, as if it catered to like preschool age. Staff was very nice and friendly. Just not a lot here.
MoreA nice place to visit . A small but interesting aquarium and lovely fountains with several trails and picnic areas. Not far from downtown Detroit.
MoreThe old zoo is in another part of the island, but is no longer in service. Now there is this. They call themselves a nature center though. They have many exhibits inside about Michigan wildlife. Outside, sometimes they have a few animals like deer. They also have a walking trail, however sometimes it's a bit flooded out. They have a small play area for small kids to play in dirt and stuff. They do have a small bit of seating. They have bathrooms inside, and I think portapotties outside. Nice sized paved parking lot, but be aware they have in and out driveways, which are marked with arrows on the road. Only one floor inside and easy access in for wheelchairs.
