Surrounding the Wintergreen Lake, the W.K. Kellogg Bird Sanctuary is a wonderland where birds of all kinds can be spotted. The sanctuary provides a habitat to a large variety of waterfowl including Trumpeter Swans, Canada Geese and other species of ducks. Enclosures are also built here for rare as well as common birds like raptors, including a Bald Eagle, Red-tailed Hawks, Eastern Screech Owl and more. The sanctuary is open to visitors throughout the year and has trails for bird watchers as well. Several public education programs including seminars, demonstrations, graduate and undergraduate programs and volunteer options are conducted here.

tripadvisorWe were staying in nearby Gull Lake Golf club. It was something to do after a round of golf in the afternoon. It is a pleasant walk and scenic to take a few pictures. Water fowl is everywhere and they seemed to be trained to follow you wanting to be fed. Seems like it be fun with younger kids. There is $5 admission.
MoreWell maintained trails in a natural habitat. Family friendly. Walks all mild within the bird areas, trails farther afield in the research lands more moderate. Free parking. Easy drive from Kalamazoo. Swans and hawks plentiful and able to be viewed up close.
MoreWe went in the morning so it was still chilly we only saw the pond because it was so cold that morning but I loved feeding the swans and geese and ducks there is a trail that takes you to see more birds 1 dollar for a bucket of corn to feed the birds really a good deal 5 dollars for admission per person definitely worth it .plan on coming back when warmer when we can actually enjoy the walk to see the animals.
MoreThis is a hidden gem. Great for bird watching and or hiking. Numerous trails are here and are well laid out and marked. Grounds are well kept. If in the area, this is a great place to visit. There is a small charge to enter. When we visited, entry fee was on the honor system. Worth a visit for a nature walk.
MoreThis is a wonderful place to enjoy a short hike and see some wonderful birds up close and personal. We visited in early November and had the place pretty much to ourselves. Entrance was a very reasonable $5 per person and the extra $1 for a small bucket of corn is worth it to bring out the kid in you. The trumpeter swans will feed from your hands but they are not gentlest of eaters! The walk around the lake is easy on maintained gravel pathways and no more than a mile or so. Along the route, check out the wonderful birds of prey which, unfortunately, are no longer able to fend for themselves due to injury. They are magnificent creatures nonetheless and (with the exception of the screech owl) its easy to see them up close. The game bird house is also worth a quick visit to see the brightly colored pheasants. The staff are enthusiastic, pleasant and knowledgeable. This is an inexpensive, excellent place to visit any time of year and particularly if you need to break up a journey with kids in the car !
