Albuquerque's largest performing arts facility has been remodeled in recent years and now offers near perfect acoustics on the stage, orchestra pit, mezzanine and balcony. The center features four theaters and an art museum containing five galleries that house a permanent collection of more than 28,000 photographs, paintings, drawings and prints. This center is located in Popejoy Hall on UNM campus, just north of Cornell and Central. Matinee shows and weekend performances vary, call for information.

Reviews
tripadvisorAbsolutely awful venue. The audio is *horrible*, far too loud (the speakers distort constantly, and there's frequently dropouts). They use metal detectors for a venue that's almost exclusively catering to the elderly which seems very excessive. The seats are airplane seat level uncomfortable, and when they let people in 15-20 minutes into a show, you have to struggle to stand up so that people can pass. The performers do their best, but this is a terrible place to see a show. I've seen 4 here this year, and I'd recommend just watching the shows on youtube or something. You'll have a way better time.I can't believe they have the audacity to charge nearly $100 a seat for some of these shows.
MoreWorst customer service! Popejoy rescheduled the February 2022 performances of Hamilton to May 2023 and is offering no refunds if you aren't able to make the rescheduled date they gave you. My family lives over 4 hours away in Colorado and we simply cannot make any of the May 2023 rescheduled dates. Popejoy will not refund any of our money, they will do nothing to help us resell our tickets, nor will they offer us credit to use for a different show. I will never purchase tickets to any other shows at Popejoy.
MoreYou can go wrong seeing any kind of show here. Acoustics are great. I've been to musicals along with concerts and never been disappointed. They are currently not serving concessions. The bathrooms need a bit of updating. Ushers are super friendly and helpful.
MoreSaw a marvelous classical concert at Popejoy. The sonics certainly weren't bad, but I've been to venues with better. The biggest benefit was that the seating is exceptionally well laid out. You don't have to splurge on the highest priced tickets to have a great view and a great time. I've never commented before on COVID practices one way or the other, preferring to focus solely on the product, but Popejoy required proof of vaccination PLUS full time mask wear. The real problem was that the proof of vaccination requirement was nowhere on the web site when I ordered tickets. It was just pure luck that I lived nearby and was able to run home and get proof and return just before they closed the doors. Again, I say this as an observation on poor customer service and relations, not a critique of the COVID practices themselves.
MorePoejoy, on UNM campus, is a high quality venue for shows. You get there best by taking a free shuttle from a remote location and after a ten minute ride you're dropped off near the front entrance. They have a lobby where you can purchase a cookie or brownie, coffee tea or water. Tasty. Nothing fancy so far. When you're allowed to enter, seats of plush red which are actually comfortable await you. Ushers are there to help you get where you need to go, and are friendly. For this show we were fairly close, in row D, 4 rows behind the orchestra pit. Ours was a musical show, and the sound was excellent, surrounded and crisp. We're big fans, and don't come often enough.
